Hot Lemon-Water Flush: An Excerpt from Rejuvenate

You will drink the Hot Lemon-Water Flush first thing each morning, to help complete the cleansing process that has been going on during the night. This drink flushes all the systems of elimination, especially the kidneys, the liver, and the colon. It helps to cleanse waste from the digestive tract and keep your breath sweet.

8-ounce glass of warm purified water

Juice of 1/2 a lemon

Pinch of cayenne pepper or 1 drop of cayenne tincture

Heat eight ounces of purified water until it is quite warm, pour the water in a glass, and add the lemon juice and cayenne. You may increase the amount of cayenne gradually (up to one-eighth teaspoon of the powder or eight drops of tincture) as you continue to make your Hot Lemon-Water Flush each morning.

Lemon juice helps to break up and dislodge the sticky mucus deposits that tend to clog up the system. Its powerful enzymes and high vitamin-C content are natural cleansers, helping to flush your system of toxic wastes. The bioflavonoid in the white inner rind and fibrous strands are also very cleansing, so use a squeezer to derive the benefits of these fibrous parts of the lemon as well. Cayenne pepper aids digestion by stimulating the production of digestive juices and helps to eliminate mucus. Some people find that drinking hot water, even by itself, helps to encourage a bowel movement in the morning.

Hydrating Drink

You can enhance the hydrating properties of your purified drinking water by adding a small amount of natural sugar. This Hydrating Drink was developed by two Australian doctors who were working in Africa with malnourished children. The doctors found that infants who were dehydrated from diarrhea were not helped when given water alone, but if some sugar was mixed in the water, it helped to rehydrate their tissues. Using sugar water for oral-hydration therapy is based on the same theory as giving intravenous glucose, or sugar water, to people in the hospital who cannot eat solid food.

You may prepare the Hydrating Drink using either pure maple syrup or apple juice, in the proportions given below. Be sure to use juice from organically grown apples, or pure maple syrup (not a maple-flavored, refined-sugar syrup). Both are excellent sweeteners. Try them, and see which suits your own taste.

6 ounces of purified water

2 ounces of organic apple juice

8 ounces of purified water

1 teaspoon of pure maple syrup

Pour the pure maple syrup or apple juice into an empty glass and fill it to the top with purified water.

Drink a glass of Hydrating Drink between meals throughout the day, whenever you are thirsty. Bring some sweetener of your choice to work. Fill a glass with water from the cooler, add the sweetener, and sip it at your desk. This Hydrating Drink helps your body absorb water at a cellular level. This keeps the tissues plump and moisturized and promotes the cleansing activity of lymphatic fluid as water is moved in and out of the cells. Regular use of this Hydrating Drink keeps your system constantly flushed with fresh water, pushing the stagnant fluids out from between the cells and overcoming a tendency to bloating by removing salt. It also keeps your colon hydrated and discourages constipation.
