Japanese women, like their Chinese
neighbors, understood that feeding the inner woman developed the
beauty of the outer woman. They developed an extensive beauty ritual
that is still being practiced by the Geisha today. For example, they
believed that eating kelp and seafood would contribute to the beauty
of their skin and the glossiness of their hair.
Indian women have been practicing the act of Kayakulpa for many
hundreds of years. This is an Ayurvedic massage technique designed to
free the body of toxins and to unleash their natural beauty. In fact,
in the Ayurvedic tradition, massage is considered just as essential to
health and beauty as a good diet and other lifestyle habits.
I've been traveling throughout the world for many years while studying
the various beauty and health techniques that I am teaching through my
books, coaching and clinical services. I have continually been
impressed by the obvious fact that older men and women often seem to
have more "sparkle" than I usually see in "older" people here at home.
In fact, I have marveled at how elderly people from non-Western
cultures appear so young. Their skin is often smooth, clear and free
of wrinkles. Not coincidentally, their diets are relatively free of
the additives and preservatives so prevalent in the American diet and
of toxic substances which accelerate the aging process, such as
refined and hydrogenated oils, refined sugar, salt, excess animal fats
and excessive caffeine.
Your skin is a barometer of how rapidly your are aging. When you are
well nourished, adequately exercised, and free of toxins and waste,
your skin will be smooth, unblemished, and youthful looking.
Today, many of us are improving our diets and increasing our exercise;
we're beginning to hear how good we look for "our age." As we turn
forty and fifty, those of us who have been taking care of ourselves
over the years have aged and deteriorated much less rapidly than
earlier generations. It's reflected through clearer, smoother skin,
sparkling eyes, and contagious vitality. That glow, that sparkle, is
true beauty and is achieved by practicing many of the anti-aging
techniques I am making available to you.
Many non-Western cultures have always understood beauty to be the
product of general health and appropriate personal care rather than a
cosmetic event. Similarly, through my work at the Inner Beauty
Institute, it has become obvious that the more we take care of
ourselves, the more radiant we become physically, regardless of our
particular body shape or proportions.
